The Whitney Food Bank was established in 1985 at Fort Graham Baptist Church, with Harvey Hardisty serving as the first Director. Since then it has had many locations, and many directors who worked with an all-volunteer staff to provide food to families within the Lake Whitney area.

In 2003 the Food Bank moved to the location of a former bakery named "Our Daily Bread" and adopted that name. It remained there for 16 years, the longest period of time at any location. Longtime volunteers recall that one of the first years at that location, a woman came in to order her pies for the holidays thinking it was still a bakery.

Mayor Gwen Evans of the City of Whitney in 2006 proclaimed May 11 "Our Daily Bread Food Bank Day", acknowledging the work that the Food Bank did to serve hundreds of people each month through generous donations from individuals, organizations, businesses and service clubs.

The Whitney Food Bank moved to its current location in 2019. This building was designed and built new specifically for the Food Bank and other functions of the Lake Whitney Ministerial Alliance.
